Liverpool and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been crowned as the first-ever winner of the Yachine Trophy at 2019 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old shot-stopper beat rival keepers including Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ederson to be crowned as the best keeper in the world.
Alisson played a crucial role in Liverpool’s Champions League success ever since arriving at Anfield from AS Roma last summer and started six times for Brazil in their triumphant Copa America campaign this summer.
He also won the Golden Glove in the Premier League in his first season with Liverpool keeping 21 clean sheets as the Reds fell just short of Manchester City by just one solitary point in the title race.
Barcelona keeper Ter Stegen finished in second place following the voting, while Alisson’s national compatriot and Manchester City keeper Ederson was named third.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Hugo Lloris, Jan Oblak, Samir Handanovic, Manuel Neuer, Andre Onana and Wojciech Szczesny were also the other names that were in the running for the inaugural award.
