Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Divock Origi for his “outstanding” performance in Liverpool’s 5-2 Merseyside derby win against Everton on Wednesday.
The Belgian forward Origi made his first Premier League start since October in the derby and made full use of his chance at Anfield, scoring a brilliant brace in the win against Everton as Liverpool extended their unbeaten run in the top-flight to a club-record of 32 games.
Origi’s second goal saw him superbly bring down a long pass from Croatian center back Dejan Lovren and his performance earned plenty of praise from his manager.
When asked about the 25-year-old forward’s performance, the 52-year-old German manager replied to reporters by stating, “Outstanding. What a game he played. When they selected these, that [Origi’s second] would have been 100 percent in contention. It was just a great first touch and then finishing it off like this. Apart from that, incredibly important runs for us, movements, used his speed, looked so natural. That was the most important thing. The understanding with Shaq [Xherdan Shaqiri] and Sadio were obviously really good. So it was a pretty impressive performance of Div”
The Reds now have an eight point lead at the summit of the Premier League table as they hope to end their 30-year long wait for a Premiership title.
