Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping that the knock suffered by Dejan Lovren during Liverpool’s crucial Champions League win over Salzburg is not a serious one after the center back was seen walking down the tunnel.
The 30-year-old Lovren limped out of Liverpool’s 3-0 win at the Vitality Stadium against Eddie Howe’ Bournemouth at the weekend in the first half because of cramp, was once again forced off 53 minutes into their 2-0 success in Austria against Red Bull Salzburg, which clinched top spot in Group E of the Champions League.
And the 52-year-old Klopp believes Lovren may have been having affected by a recurrence of cramp that is causing him some pain. Klopp is also aware that his side can ill-afford to lose Lovren with their Club World Cup campaign coming close next week.
In a conversation with reporters, the German manager stated that he hopes the injury for Lovren isn’t too serious, “We hope Dejan is nothing serious, We hope that it’s exactly the same as last time. He felt something and we made the decision. It’s of course not cool. He played really well and was very important. We don’t know more at the moment. It felt similar like last time, that’s it. We have to see.”
Liverpool will host bottom of the table club Watford at the weekend and then face Aston Villa in an EFL Cup quarter-final clash in which they are expected to field most of their youth team players.
Following their trip to Villa Park, the Merseyside giants travel to Qatar for the Club World Cup.
