Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has stated that playing in Saturday’s Club World Cup final against Flamengo will be a “dream come true”.
Champions League holders Liverpool face Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo in a blockbuster clash at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar to decide the club World championship.
The Merseyside giants are eager to win the trophy for the first time in their history, but Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson Becker acknowledged the sides hailing from his own country put greater importance on the grand competition.
Ahead of the crunch final, the former-Internacional goalkeeper admitted that he still watches his former club and a few other clubs in Brazil, “I still watch Brazilian football, especially my former club, and Flamengo are a joy to watch.”
The 27-year-old also stated his excitement on playing in the final and will be even gladder to be representing Liverpool. “I’m excited to be playing in the Club World Cup final – it is a dream comes true. I was a young boy at 14 when I watched my club Internacional win it in 2006 as a fan. Now I’m here with this opportunity to win it with Liverpool. It’s big for Brazilians, but I think it’s bigger for the people playing in it. People on the outside don’t give value to this competition because it’s limited just for the winners.”
Alisson was in superb form in the semifinal clash against Mexican club Monterrey on Wednesday making some crucial saves to help his team to the final. Having been named as the best goalkeeper in the world, Alisson will be hoping to write his name down further in Anfield folklore.
