Alex Oxlade Chamberlain Out For the Rest Of The Year

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is ruled out of the upcoming fixtures for the remainder of the year after suffering ligament damage.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder limped off in the 75th minute against Brazilian outfit Flamengo in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Saturday and has added to his long list of injuries by damaging his ligament.

The English midfielder has endured an injury-ravaged career at Merseyside ever since his move from Arsenal back in the summer of 2017, having watched from the sidelines on a number of occasions due to the serious knee and ACL injury.

Chamberlain is now set to miss out on the Reds’ next couple of fixtures for sure during the festive period. Speaking to the media ahead of their trip to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City, Klopp explained the seriousness of the injury and also stated that the midfielder will be unable to feature again this year, “The ankle is what we probably expected. One of the ligaments on the outside is damaged and we have to see how quickly we can fix that. It can take a while or it can be quicker, we will see. With Oxlade, it was probably what we expected. You have three ligaments on the outside of the ankle and one of them is damaged, now we have to see how quickly we can fix that.”

Chamberlain is now set to be out with injury for the game against Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers as the European champions will be hoping to end a remarkable 2019 on a high.

The Merseyside giants hold a 10 point lead at the summit of the Premier League table and are eager to end their 30-year wait for a title.
