Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has insisted that Liverpool did not feel unbeatable despite their incredible run in the Premier League this campaign so far.
The Merseyside giants secured their 22nd win in 23 league games this season by edging Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in a tight contest on Thursday at the Molineaux Stadium.
Still unbeaten in England’s top flight, Liverpool looks certain to end their 30 years wait for a title as they are 16 points ahead of 2nd placed Manchester City with a game in hand. However, Dutch center-back Van Dijk warned his team that there is still plenty of work to be done if the Reds want to finish the season as champions.
Following the victory over Wolves, Van Dijk told reporters that the feeling of being going unbeaten is never on the mind of the Liverpool players and there have been moments where the Premier League leaders may have been susceptible, “You never feel unbeatable – it is not a feeling that we have, anything can happen. There were moments against Wolves when things could have been different. They could have scored a second. We always feel we have to keep working hard. We just try to keep improving. Things are going well at the moment and everyone is in a good situation.”
Van Dijk has been an imperious figure for Klopp’s unit since arriving at the club and has transformed Liverpool’s defense massively by adding a base of solid composure and belief that the Reds can go on and win trophies.
