According to Reds legend Emile Heskey, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have overtaken Manchester City as “the dominant force” in the Premier League as they are the now the new ‘standard-bearers’
The Merseyside giants are still waiting on their first piece of domestic silverware since 2012, having won the League Cup under then manager Kenny Dalglish.
However, under German boss Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have tasted success in the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup successes over the course of the last 12 months.
The supporters at Liverpool though will be glad to see their team opening up a 25-point lead at the summit of the Premier League table, having fallen spectacularly short in a title quest during the 2018-19 campaign finishing just one point behind Manchester City in the process.
The coronavirus has halted football in the UK but it seems that Liverpool needs only two more wins to be crowned as Premier League champions once the season resumes.
With a first top-flight title in sight, former England international Emile Heskey believes that Liverpool have become the side to beat heading forward. The 42-year-old also explained there is every reason to believe that a new era of trophy collecting can be overseen by Liverpool under Klopp.
The former Liverpool striker explained that Liverpool have gotten to the point of becoming the dominant force in the English top tier overtaking Manchester City in the process, “Liverpool have slowly got to the point where they are now kind of the dominant force. They are the standard bearers now. It was Manchester City for a while, but now Liverpool have taken on that mantle. But with their forward line getting a year older, can they carry on doing it at that level? That’s the question.”
The FA Cup winner also revealed that the recruitment at Liverpool has also been special to pick players and transform them into superstars, “And then your recruitment has to be special too. You have to bring in players who are really going to make a difference when they come into the side, players who can hit the ground running. Manchester City have got it right in that sense, but Liverpool are slowly doing that too.”
