Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has explained that the return of the football in the English top division would be a great bonus for the UK economy that has been heavily impacted by the coronavirus crisis.
The coronavirus crisis has wreaked havoc on most sporting events across the globe and especially football in Europe. Football in the UK has been suspended since early March as Liverpool were left stranded at the top of the Premier League table, extending their wait to be crowned champions of the land.
However, the UK government has outlined the football to return once again from June 17 onwards in order to boost the economy as well as keep fans at home entertained. Although some players have voiced their concerns over the return of sport despite the coronavirus looming large, Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has explained that football’s resumption should provide a big lift for fans.
While speaking to reporters, the 26-year-old Scottish left-back revealed that with the resumption of football, the whole of the UK would get an uplift. The Premier League have set certain rules and regulations to be followed in order for a smooth return with players expected to be tested on a regular basis.
In conversation with Sky Sports, Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson said, “All the Premier League protocols that they’ve set out, the club has to adhere to them, They’ve been second to none – the staff in here have been a different class and they’ve made it a safe environment for us to come and train.”
“For me when people’s normal jobs start going back to normal and people are getting told to get back to work, for us, I don’t think there’s a safer place we can be. That’s something the Premier League are working on, to get everything spot on and to keep everyone happy. We’ve done really well so far, everyone keeps to the rooms and doing everything that we need to do and hopefully, football will lift everyone’s mood and the economy”
