Former Liverpool FC midfielder Steve McManaman has stated that he believes English starlet Jadon Sancho should not be keen on prioritizing a move to the Premier League in the summer and should instead focus upon staying at Borussia Dortmund.
McManaman, who played for the Reds for a span of nine years and then went on to play in Spain for Real Madrid before eventually retiring post a spell at Manchester City FC, claimed that despite Sancho’s brilliance and his young age, the current attacking trio of Liverpool FC was world-class in every aspect.
McManaman expressed his worry that Sancho’s impressive showing in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund had led to many top Premier League sides such as the Reds and Manchester United FC interested in signing the 20-year old attacker.
However, the Reds legend explained his reason of not wanting his former team to make a move for Sancho in the summer, with McManaman questioning as to why the Liverpool FC management would spend a huge amount of money on signing Sancho, when Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohammad Salah’s trio of attackers are more than capable of taking the Reds to greater heights.
However, McManaman did admit that the present Manchester United FC squad was in need of a player like Sancho.
Manchester United FC manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been known to be very persistent on signing the young English international, however, has put been put off repeatedly by Dortmund’s asking price of £100 million.
The Premier League side are reported to be on the hunt for a right-winger this summer and have been keeping tabs on Sancho for quite a while. However, McManaman believes that the player should extend his stay at Borussia Dortmund for the time being and continue to develop further as a player. Moreover, the opportunity to feature in the Champions League is an added bonus for Sancho to continue to play in the Dortmund colours, with Manchester United FC’s chance to play Champions League football next season not being guaranteed.
Sancho has been in terrific form for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund this season, with the 20-year old scoring as many as 20 goals and has assisted the same number of times in 41 appearances for the Die Borussen. The English international had joined the German side from Manchester City FC, where had come through the youth ranks of the Premier League champions but was not deemed worthy of first-team football opportunities.
