Liverpool FC join race to sign highly-rated French striker

Liverpool FC have joined other Premier League sides in the race to sign Wissam Ben Yedder.

The French striker, who plays for AS Monaco, is reportedly wanting a move from the Ligue 1 side. Manchester United and Arsenal have also declared interest in signing the talented French international.

Ben Yedder has been in a terrific form this season for Monaco. The player was the joint-top scorer in the French league alongside PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, with 19 goals to his name. Moreover, Ben Yedder is one of the few Monaco players who have excelled in the 2019-20 campaign.

AS Monaco signed Ben Yedder from Spanish side Sevilla by triggering his release clause worth £35.6million. The striker agreed upon a contract worth £127,000-a-week with the French side. His signing has been a wonderful decision for Monaco, who have finished a miserable ninth in the 2019-20 season.

The player had revealed that he was very close to moving to FC Barcelona last summer. His performances in the Sevilla FC shirt had prompted Barcelona to take notice. However, Ben Yedder publicly admitted that the transfer negotiations did not materialize.

With Monaco having finished ninth in the French league, there is no scope to play European football for Ben Yedder next season. The French international is, therefore, seeking a move to one of the top sides which can guarantee him Champions League football. Playing in the Premier League is considered to be the preferable option for Ben Yedder.

If Liverpool FC manages to sign Ben Yedder, it would be a major boost for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Having missed out on Timo Werner’s signing, Ben Yedder would be an equally prolific striker for the Reds. The 29-year old would be a great squad rotation option to the current front three of Liverpool FC.

Ben Yedder’s contract with AS Monaco doesn’t expire for the next four years. However, Monaco will reportedly accept any bids nearing the amount they paid to sign the French striker. A number of Spanish sides have also enquired about Ben Yedder’s availability in the summer.
