Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has told the Bundesliga giants that he prefers a move to Liverpool FC. The Spanish midfielder is eager on moving away from Germany and play elsewhere.
Anfield has emerged as the favoured destination for the 29-year old Thiago, according to reports. The midfielder is keen on playing under Jurgen Klopp, whom he has faced on many occasions during Klopp’s time as the Borussia Dortmund manager.
Thiago is known to be one of the most skilful midfielders in the game with a great eye for goal. The Spanish international is a key part of Bayern’s midfield alongside Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
The 29-year old joined the German side from FC Barcelona in 2013 for a €25 million fee. Since then, Thiago has performed exceptionally well for the Bavarians. He has become one of their most important players in the squad that has gone on to win seven consecutive Bundesliga titles.
Jurgen Klopp is known to be a huge admirer of Thiago and has praised the midfielder on numerous occasions. In 2018, when Liverpool FC had signed Naby Keita from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, Klopp had remarked that Keita and Thiago were the two best players in the German league.
Thiago’s current deal with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the 2020-21 campaign. Despite being engaged in contractual negotiations with Bayern, Thiago has expressed his desire of playing elsewhere in Europe.
Although the Spanish midfielder has turned 29, there will still be many top teams vying for his signature. Liverpool FC could certainly make a move for Thiago if a reasonable valuation is given by Bayern for their talented midfielder.
With Adam Lallana set to depart at the end of the 2019-20 Premier League season, Klopp could replace the English midfielder with a new signing. Moreover, there is increasing doubts over the futures of Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita at Anfield. Keita has struggled to adapt himself to the Premier League and has suffered from injury troubles.
If Keita or Shaqiri do leave the Reds, Jurgen Klopp would be in a better position to make a move for Thiago and sign a player whom he wholeheartedly admires for a long time.
