Former Liverpool FC fan-favorite Luis Suarez has reflected back on his time at the Merseyside club in a recent interview. The FC Barcelona striker expressed delight at his former side being crowned the Premier League champions, thereby ending a 30-year wait.
The Uruguay national team forward, however, admitted to being sad over the fact that he could win the Premier League with the Reds. Furthermore, Suarez spoke about the time Liverpool FC had narrowly missed out Premier League glory while he was a Reds player in 2014. In the 2013-14 season, Brendan Rodger’s Liverpool FC side has missed out on the title by just two points.
Suarez established himself as one of the greatest strikers in world football during his days in the Reds shirt. The 33 year old striker spent three and a half seasons at Anfield and made 110 Premier League appearances. Suarez was phenomenal in front of the goal and scored more than 80 goals for the Merseyside club. He was awarded the PFA Player of the Year award for his terrific performance in the 2013-14 season in which he scored 31 goals in 33 games.
The FC Barcelona talisman showered praise on the Reds skipper Jordan Henderson. Suarez stated that he was delighted for Henderson captaining Liverpool FC to Champions League glory last season. The 33-year old added that he felt glad for Henderson’s success due to the English midfielder overcoming problems both on and off the pitch to lead his side to greatness.
According to Suarez, Henderson will go down in history as one of the greatest Liverpool FC captains. The striker believes that his former teammate’s contribution to the Reds on the field is immense. Henderson was branded as a wonderful human being by Suarez.
The former Anfield favorite also shed light on his celebration against the Reds in last season’s Champions League semi-finals. Suarez clarified that he had celebrated his goal as the game was being held at Camp Nou. Moreover, due to the fixture being a semi-final tie, Suarez felt obligated to express delight at his effort.
Suarez expressed hope that the Reds fanbase would not be disappointed in their former player. He admitted that his time at Liverpool FC was one of the best moments of his playing career. Suarez left the Reds to join FC Barcelona in July 2014 for a £65 million transfer fee.
