Danny Murphy issues apology for earlier remarks made about Liverpool FC’s players

Former Liverpool FC player Danny Murphy has apologized to the Reds supporters for his earlier disparaging comments about certain Liverpool FC players. Murphy had claimed that some of the players in Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League-winning squad were not fit enough to lace the boots of Manchester City FC playmaker Kevin de Bruyne.

This comment was made by Murphy in the light of Pep Guardiola’s confirmation of the fact that The Citizens would give Liverpool FC a guard of honor at their upcoming fixture at the Etihad Stadium. Such an honor is to be bestowed upon the Reds due to them being crowned the champions of the 2019-20 Premier League season last week.

Murphy had termed such an event to be a matter of nonsense. According to the former English midfielder, the custom of giving a guard of honor to a newly crowned Premier League winning team was only done as a way of showing respect. Murphy claimed that De Bruyne was arguably the best midfielder in the world. Such a stature would not be fit enough to clap for Liverpool FC’s players onto the pitch.

The former Liverpool FC player had also added that the current Reds players would feel uncomfortable upon their Manchester City’s players clapping them onto the pitch on Thursday night’s fixture.

Following his comments indicating disdain at the customary football tradition in England, Murphy received a host of backlash on social media. A lot of criticism was directed towards him for his supposed insult of the current Liverpool FC players who have been wonderful this season for the Reds. Liverpool FC fans were particularly hurt by Murphy’s statements suggesting that the current Reds midfield department was not good enough.

Murphy issued an apology to the people offended his statements through a post on his Instagram. He stated that he had used a poor choice of words in order to describe the current Liverpool FC midfielders. Moreover, Murphy expressed his admiration for the achievements of Jurgen Klopp’s side over the past two years. He also added that his comments were misinterpreted by the media.

Liverpool FC will go against Manchester City FC on Thursday night in another Premier League encounter. The game will be held at the Etihad Stadium, however, with no fans being in attendance due to the COVID-19 scare.
