Divock Origi subject to interest from Aston Villa this summer

Liverpool FC cult hero Divock Origi has courted interest from Premier League side Aston Villa who barely survived relegation this season. According to reports, Villa are keen to add to their attacking options ahead of next season. The club’s boss Dean Smith is understood to have identified Origi as a possible summer signing for his side.

Origi has merely been a squad-rotation player for Jurgen Klopp’s side across the 2019-20 Premier League title-winning season for the Reds. The Belgian striker has featured sporadically for the Merseyside club during the course of the league campaign. A vast majority of Origi’s appearances for Liverpool FC this season have been off the bench.

With Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohammad Salah being the club’s first-choice attacking trio, few opportunities have come Origi’s way. However, the 25-year old has not complained of his present squad status within Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Belgian has stated that he is happy at the Merseyside club despite not being a guaranteed starter.

Despite him being a bit-part player for the Reds, Origi has always come in clutch for his side. The Belgian had scored a memorable brace against FC Barcelona last season in Liverpool FC’s comeback victory in the Champions League semi-final clash. Moreover, this season too, the 25-year old has come in handy with goals at crucial stages of the game.

However, the player is aware that he would need substantial first-team opportunities at the club level to prove his worth towards Roberto Martinez’s Belgium national squad. The UEFA Euros are scheduled for next year, and Origi would be hoping to make the cut for Belgium.

The 25-year old striker has been restricted to just seven league starts this season for Liverpool FC. Instead, the player has been fielded on a regular basis in cup competitions by his Jurgen Klopp.

If Origi does end up moving to Villa Park this summer, the Belgian international will get substantial first-team involvement. Dean Smith’s side are short on quality strikers, and Origi could as well be the first-choice option.
