Liverpool FC icon Steven Gerrard is believed to be among the frontrunners to take the now vacant managerial posting at AFC Bournemouth. The Cherries are manager-less following the departure of long-serving coach Eddie Howe earlier this week.
Gerrard is currently the manager of Scottish giants Rangers and is set to start his third season in charge at the Gers in the upcoming 2020-21 campaign. However, before that, Gerrard’s side will take on Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in their Europe League Round of 16 fixture tomorrow night.
Former Tottenham Hotspurs player Jamie O’Hara has stated that Gerrard would be better off taking the Bournemouth job than spending another season in charge at Rangers. The former termed the vacant coaching job at the Vitality Stadium to be a more prosperous one than Gerrard’s current posting in Scotland.
According to O’Hara, the former Liverpool FC midfield legend has the opportunity to take a recently relegated side in the form of the Cherries back to the Premier League and reach greater heights with an improved squad at his disposal in the coming seasons.
“Rangers are a huge, huge football club but for me there are only two teams in Scotland. Bournemouth is the potential, they have just dropped out of the Premier League and to get them back into the Premier League. They are still a high profile football team.
The 40-year old Gerrard is widely seen as an ideal replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the future. The Liverpool FC boss had stated previously that he sees his tenure as the club’s manager ending in 2024. Gerrard, with his love for the Merseyside club, could as well be a future appointee as his boyhood side’s manager.
