Liverpool FC target Thiago Alcântara has been urged to turn down a move to Anfield by Bayern Munich skipper Manuel Neuer. The former is rumoured to be eager on signing for Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer after failing to extend terms with the Bundesliga giants.
Neuer has expressed hope of his long-term teammate extending his stay at the Allianz Arena beyond this season. The German outfit are still in contention to clinch the Champions League and have booked a quarter-final clash with FC Barcelona later this week. Securing Europe’s most prestigious club competition would ensure a memorable treble for Bayern following their domestic success.
The 34-year old German goalkeeper voiced his admiration for Thiago’s quality on the pitch and made note of the Spaniard’s importance to the Bavarians. The midfielder was described by Neuer as Bayern’s engine in the centre of the park. It is known that the 29-year old Thiago is among the most creative options among the club’s current first-team squad.
“He’s a very valuable player for us, especially in ball possession.
“He’s very important for us. He’s our engine in midfield actually.”
Speculation linking Thiago with a move to Anfield refuses to die down despite recent reports suggesting Liverpool FC’s unwillingness to meet Bayern’s £27 million for the player. The Reds are believed to be optimistic about securing the 29-year old’s signature for around £20 million.
The German club’s coach Hansi Flick has admitted to his inability of persuading Thiago to turn down a move to England. Flick stated that the Spanish international’s ambitions are a leading factor behind his desire to play in the Premier League.
“Thiago played in Spain for Barcelona and in the Bundesliga for Bayern.
“If maybe he wants to play in the Premier League now, I totally understand.
