Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp has termed Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League victory ‘lucky’’, with the German coach stating that the schedule of the Bundesliga favored Hansi Flick’s side to perform better in their European commitments.
Bayern Munich clinched the 2019-20 Champions League trophy by defeating Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the finals held on Sunday thanks due to a Kinglsey Coman goal. In the process, the German side dethroned the Reds as the holders of Europe’s most prestigious club tournament.
Despite being full of praise for Bayern Munich, Klopp’s old foes during his days as the Borussia Dortmund boss, the Liverpool FC manager admitted that the schedule of German top-flight football played a role in Bayern’s success in the Champions League.
‘It is difficult to write more history in eight months,’ Klopp told ZDF. ‘(Bayern were) a little lucky that, amid all the chaos with schedules, their schedule was best suited to the Champions League.
However, the coach of the Anfield giants termed Hansi Flick’s men to be one of the best teams in world football at the moment. The Bayern side completed a historic treble following their victory over PSG on Sunday, a second in seven years for the German club.
‘At the moment definitely one of the absolute, absolute top teams. They are sensationally well equipped.
‘They have absolute world-class players in every position, and all at the right age.’
Klopp will be hoping to sign one of Bayern’s treble-winning stars in Thiago Alcantara this summer, with the Spanish international having become Liverpool FC’s main transfer target ahead of next season. The 29-year old is believed to be adamant on sealing a move to Anfield as talks between the Reds and the Bundesliga champions expected to gather pace this week.
