England U18 international Rhys Williams has signed a long-term contract extension with Liverpool FC, the Premier League champions confirmed on their official website, liverpoolfc.com.
Williams enjoyed a productive season-loan spell at Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North last season. The 19-year old center-back was a regular starter for the Worcestershire-based outfit across the 2019-20 league campaign.
Having been associated with the Reds’ since a very young age, the defender is tipped to develop into a bright prospect for the Anfield giants in the coming years. William’s performances at the youth level for the Anfield giants has led to the youngster’s style of play been compared to Virgil van Dijk.
The 19-year old center-back is widely expected to play a significant part in the Liverpool FC U23’s Premier League 2 campaign in the upcoming season. A number of rising stars from the club’s youth squad have come up through the ranks of Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent seasons, with Curtis Jones and Neco Williams being notable examples.
According to reports, Barry Lewtas, who is the coach of the U23 squad of the Reds, has been left impressed by Williams’ development as a player in recent times and is set to award him greater playing opportunities next season.
