Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard has voiced his disappointment at having been embroiled in a touchline spat with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool FC’s coaching staff last season.
Both managers had been involved in a dispute on the sidelines that turned into a very vocal affair when the Blues visited Anfield in July. A free-kick that had been awarded to the Reds in the early stages of the game following a soft-challenge from Lampard’s side angered the Chelsea FC coach to the extent of hurling expletives at the Merseyside outfit’s staff members.
In the aftermath of the Premier League game that turned out to be a 5-3 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, Lampard had labeled the Reds’ coach and his group as ‘arrogant’ following their title-winning success.
However, now the player-turned-manager of the Stamford Bridge giants has expressed his regret over the turn of events that unfolded nearly two months ago in a recent interview on The High Performance Podcast.
‘Yeah, I did regret that. And when that broke the next day a friend of mine sent it to me in the morning, I was a bit embarrassed by it.
‘I was in the moment, I felt we turned up and it was the easiest day for Liverpool ever. They won the league, they went goals up early in the game.
Also speaking about the admiration he holds for the Liverpool FC boss, Lampard indicated his remorse on the verbal spat that occurred between him and the German, which he termed as an ‘ impulse reaction’.
‘ I definitely didn’t mean any disrespect to Jurgen Klopp, because I’ve got huge admiration for them.
‘It was an impulse reaction, which I will happily – when I do see him, I’ll put that one right.
