Liverpool will sell players before signing new ones, says club legend

Liverpool will be looking forward to offloading three or four of their current squad members, claims player-turned-Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

The current transfer window has seen the Merseyside outfit as one of the fringiest players in terms of signing new players, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and arch-foes Everton eclipsing the Reds’ with their transfer business this summer.

Greek international Kostas Tsimikas remains the only player having arrived at Anfield prior to the commencement of the 2020-21 season for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The left-back was signed by Liverpool FC for £11.75 million to add to the defensive depth at the club.

However, Klopp will be hopeful of parting ways with as many as four players to raise funds for meeting additional transfer requirements, expressed Carragher following the Reds’ 4-3 victory over Leeds United on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign.

“Liverpool have got three or four players in the squad they are looking to move on.

According to the ex-Liverpool FC centre-back, the defending league champions will be anticipating a few departures before splurging cash in the transfer market for new acquisitions, similar to what Klopp had done with Philippe Coutinho’s exit in 2018.

“It seems like they have to sell before they buy, that was the case with Dejan Lovren. He had to leave before a left-back could come in.

“Liverpool lost there player to bring Van Dijk in and the goalkeeper. There’s no point buying for the sake of it, but I do feel they need someone to supplement the front three.
