With the objective of finding a cut-price replacement for Dejan Lovren, Liverpool FC have reportedly stepped up interest in signing Sampdoria centre-back, Omar Colley.
The Gambian international has been a steady and reliable presence in the Serie A outfit’s backline over the past few seasons and looks ready to make the big move to the Premier League, reports suggest.
The 27-year old could potentially arrive at the Anfield outfit as a fourth-choice centre-back at Klopp’s disposal. However, in recent seasons, Colley has established his credentials of a regular starter for Sampdoria across their Serie A commitments.
Liverpool FC have always considered signing players in bargain price deals to bolster their ranks and Colley certainly fits the same bracket of players. His release clause is valued at £10.8 million, a very low figure taking into account the other centre-back options targeted by the Merseyside giants this summer.
Following Lovren’s move to Zenit in July, Liverpool FC fell one central defender short in the club’s senior squad. Despite Jurgen Klopp’s insistence of placing his trust in youngsters stepping up to the challenge of filling the void left by Lovren, a more experienced option was required by the Reds to fortify their defensive core.
