Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Wolves’ forward Diogo Jota in an unexpected piece of transfer business by the Premier League champions after a relatively quiet period in the market for them.
Following the capture of long-term target Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich, the Reds were keen on adding another attacking talent to their first-team squad to provide much-needed cover for the fearsome front trio of Firmino, Mane, and Salah.
After being thrown off in their chase for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr due to pricing concerns, the 23-year old Jota emerged as Liverpool FC’s preferred alternative, according to reports. The Portuguese international has been a solid performer at the Molineux Stadium for the past couple of seasons, scoring 44 goals in 131 competitive appearances.
Jota’s arrival at the Merseyside club is bound to excite the ardent Reds’ fanbase as the player has shown impressive ability in his outings for Wolves in the Premier League as well as in the Europa League, where he scored two hat-tricks across Wolves’ 2019-20 European Campaign.
