Jamie Carragher has showered huge praise on Liverpool FC star-forward Sadio Mane and touted the Senegalese to be a better player for the Reds than club legend John Barnes, who has a world-class attacking talent during his days at Anfield.
Mane was in flying form as Liverpool FC defeated Chelsea 2-0 on the road to their second successive victory in the 2020-21 Premier League season. The 28-year old scored a thumping header from a Roberto Firmino cross and then made the most of Kepa’s calamitous goalkeeping show to double the advantage for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And Carragher was extremely vocal in signing the praises for the ex-Southampton man, who has been a formidable force to reckon with since signing for the Anfield giants four summers ago and has since been linked with moves to FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the near future.
The ex-Liverpool FC centre-back labelled Mane to be one the best left-sided forwards in world football, a clear indication of Carragher’s admiration for the Senegalese international’s ability on the pitch.
‘I think Mane is one of the best left-sided attacking players in world football. I love him’, Carragher told Sky Sports.
‘He’s the first big signing for Jurgen Klopp and that got Liverpool into the Champions League in Klopp’s first season. He’s been a constant and he’s an absolute superstar.’
‘We loved John Barnes and he has always been in Liverpool’s best-ever XI, wide left. I think when Mane finishes he’s going to be really pushing John Barnes for that position,’ the former English international added.
It is certainly very high praise coming from the player-turned- Sky Sports pundit for Mane to be compared to a Liverpool FC icon in John Barnes, a player who scored 106 goals in 403 games for the Merseyside outfit over the course of a ten-year-long spell at Anfield.
