Adam Lallana sings a short-term contract extension with the Reds

Experienced English midfielder Adam Lallana has signed a short-term contract extension with Liverpool FC which would allow him to stay at the Reds till the end of the current campaign.

The 32-year old attacking midfielder was set to leave Liverpool FC on a free transfer on the expiry of his current contract which was due on 30th June. Signing an extension with the Merseyside club would see Lallana play out the rest of the campaign in the Reds shirt and hopefully get his hands on the Premier League trophy.

Lallana had been phased out the Liverpool FC lineup in recent seasons due to the long run of injuries having an adverse impact on the player’s form and. Moreover, the new midfield acquisitions by the Reds in the form of Fabinho, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita led to the 32-year old Lallana featuring only sporadically in league matches and was instead started in the Red’s cup games.

On the extension of his contract with the Reds, Lallana said “I feel in my time at Liverpool I’ve always looked to do the right thing for the team, the manager and the club in every decision I’ve made. I think this one fits into that category as well, so I’m buzzing to be seeing out this campaign and hopefully get to celebrate something memorable with an amazing group of people.” 

Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight at being able to tie down Lallana’s stay at the Premier League leaders until the end of the season. The German stated that a player of Lallana’s calibre deserved a wonderful farewell by the club and the supporters watching at home.

Klopp added that it was not possible for him to explain how much did Lallana matter to the Premier League side and praised his professionalism as a footballer. The Reds manager admitted that there was interest from various other Premier League sides in Lallana, who is set to leave on a free transfer on the expiry of his contract.

Adam Lallana was signed for Liverpool FC by then Reds manager Brendan Rodgers in 2014. The player made the move from Southampton, where had excelled as a player with a brilliant run of performances in the 2013-14 Premier League season. Lallana’s transfer cost Liverpool FC a reported £25 million. Since then the player has made 128  Premier League appearances for the Reds and scored 18 goals. He has been a part of the Liverpool FC team that reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2018 and 2019, winning the latter in Madrid.
