Rabiot moving to Liverpool would be a bad move for both parties

Adrien Rabiot was massively linked to Barcelona in the past transfer window but nothing materialized. He has just one year left on his contract and will be allowed to sign a pre-contract with any club in January.

The French midfielder started 33 games in the league last season and was an integral part to PSG’s success. Rabiot has recently been linked to Liverpool massively after rumours emerged that Klopp is a massive admirer.

Why not Rabiot ?

However, this move wouldn’t be a good move for either club as of now. Liverpool have brought in Naby Keita and Fabinho in the recent transfer window giving a nice depth to their midfield. Liverpool now have Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Milner, Lallana, Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain competing for 3 midfield spots.

There is great depth in the midfield and apart from Fabinho, all the others have now settled in with Klopp’s tactics. A move for Rabiot wouldn’t be a great move as it would mean the end of Henderson. Henderson is the Liverpool captain and knows the club inside out. Even though Rabiot would be a available for very less, a move right now just doesn’t seem right.

Rabiot is still young at 23 but has established himself as a pretty solid midfielder. He deserves to play in a big club and Liverpool would certainly offer him that. But, he could very well end up 4th or 5th choice under Klopp if he doesn’t manage to adapt to his tactics.

A move to Barcelona would make much more sense for him as he could learn the roles of a box-to-box midfielder from Arturo Vidal. He has a greater chance of adapting to Valverde’s tactics than Klopp’s.

A deal for Rabiot could end up being a “steal” in today’s market but could also end up being pretty useless.
