Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs has reportedly caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp, with the Liverpool FC boss on the lookout for centre-back reinforcements for his side following injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The Reds are reeling in difficult times following an injury-hit crisis at the backline, and Joe Gomez remains the only senior squad central defender at Klopp’s disposal, despite Nathaniel Phillips putting in a superb show during Saturday’s comeback victory over West Ham United.
Klopp does require immediate cover in the central defender position following Van Dijk’s ACL diagnosis meaning the 29-year-old man mountain is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Schuurs displayed a good defensive performance against Liverpool FC in the Champions League group stage tie a fortnight ago, and Jurgen Klopp may be enticed to make the move for the Dutch youngster in January.
The 20-year-old’s showings of late bear some resemblance to former Ajax skipper and current Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt. Schuurs is even touted to become a major force for both Ajax as well as the Holland national squad in the coming years, which puts him ahead in the line of a number of centre-back candidates being scouted by Liverpool FC.
