Fans can’t help but feel bad for the Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was struggling with his career at Arsenal desperately trying to find his preferred position. Arsene Wenger used him as a wingback and as a central midfielder, but the Englishman couldn’t cement his place in either position.
Even though he couldn’t really get going at Arsenal, he was a wanted man in the summer of 2017. Klopp showed faith and brought him a for a reported 35 million.
Chamberlain took some time to adapt to Klopp’s tactics, but once he did, he was a man reborn.
Klopp played him in his midfield three, the position Chamberlain had been craving for. The Southampton academy graduate started giving match-winning performances against the likes of Manchester City and drew the attention of the football world.
He had cemented his place in the midfield three after the departure of Coutinho. Chamberlain had paved the path for Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League final but an unfortunate injury in the semi-finals meant that he couldn’t take part in it himself.
Chamberlain got injured against Roma and was declared out until October. On further analysis in June, we got to know that he might not feature in the entirety of the 2018-19 season due to his ligament tear.
He recently featured in an interview with Sky Sports, where he looked surprisingly upbeat. He talked about his position at the club and how he has found the perfect system for himself. Chamberlain also mentioned that he is trying to remain positive despite the emotional stress upon him.
There is ofcourse, no guarantee that he will return as the same player but a fit Chamberlain would do good to Liverpool’s midfield.
