Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury which could keep him out until October.
The England international has often been on the receiving end of recurring fitness issues during his time at Anfield and a fresh setback on the injury front for Chamberlain was confirmed by Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Reds head coach said that a serious hamstring issue was likely to keep the former Arsenal man on the sidelines for a few weeks but he would not be requiring a surgery.
“With Oxlade, it will take longer (than a few weeks), it is a serious hamstring injury.
“A hamstring – we all hate this word but it is an injury and it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one. Does he need an operation? No.”
Chamberlain’s future on Merseyside was subject to much speculation this summer with the 28-year-old, who has fallen down the pecking order in the Liverpool squad over the past year, linked with a move elsewhere to get his career back on track.
Klopp, however, is understood to have decided against parting ways with the Englishman with Liverpool not dipping into the transfer market to sign a new midfielder.
