Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker had a tremendous debut campaign with the Reds and the 26-year-old was awarded the UEFA Goalkeeper of the season for 2018-19.
There were a few eyebrows that were raised when Jurgen Klopp splashed out an incredible £60 million to Italian club AS Roma for the services of Alisson Becker last summer. However, the 26-year-old has been in absolutely fine form for the Merseyside giants proving his worth in gold for Klopp and Liverpool.
The Brazilian goalkeeper played every single minute of the Champions League tournament as Liverpool were crowned as European champions following their success in Madrid after the win over Tottenham Hotspur. Alisson kept six clean sheets along the way to the Champions League triumph and also won the Golden Glove in the Premier League keeping the most number of clean sheets helping Liverpool finish 2nd on the Premier League table.
Alisson also pulled off a few stunning saves this season one injury-time stop against Napoli in the dying stages of the Champions League knockout phase at Anfield which was one of the main reasons why the Reds managed to progress through to the next stages of the competition.
The Liverpool shot-stopper also won the Copa America with Brazil after the Champions League and pipped rivals Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Hugo Lloris to the award.
Upon receiving the UEFA Goalkeeper accolade in Monaco Alisson said, “It was an amazing season with two titles individually, with the Champions League and with the Copa America with the national team. And then this award is very important to me. I just want to say thank you to my teammates and to the people who work with me – the goalkeeping coaches also from Liverpool. They helped me a lot this season to improve on the last season that I had at Roma. Now I’m just looking forward to coming back quickly to have another great season.”
