Alisson Becker’s absence for the Brighton clash explained by Jurgen Klopp

Alisson Becker’s absence from the Liverpool FC matchday squad for Brighton’s visit to Anfield was narrowed down to an illness, confirmed Jurgen Klopp while speaking to the club’s official website.’

The Brazillian international shot-stopper was excluded from the starting eleven, which came as a shock to many, considering that there had been no prior reports of the 28-year-old sustaining any injuries in the games prior to the midweek clash.

Klopp established that Alisson had to be replaced by Caoimhin Kelleher between the sticks for the Merseyside giants owing to the former not feeling well as the Liverpool FC boss ruled out a COVID-19 diagnosis for the former AS Roma man.

“Ali is ill – [it’s] not Covid, thank God. Not seriously, but there was no chance.”

“He woke up this morning and was not well and we couldn’t bring him.”

Alisson’s deputy in the Liverpool FC goal, Kelleher, delivered a great showing but his efforts went in vain as Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered a second straight loss at home turf, with Graham Potter’s Brighton outfit securing all three points from the matchup courtesy of a second-half goal from Steven Alzate.
