Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson hailed the importance of club-mate Roberto Firmino for Jurgen Klopp’s team after the forward’s winning goal against Flamengo in the Club World Cup final in Doha this Saturday.
Firmino netted two winning goals in as many games for the European champions at the tournament, which earned Liverpool their first trophy in the clubs illustrious history after a 1-0 win over Flamengo
The 28-year-old is often comes under scrutiny due to his lack of goals amid the presence of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. But despite his vital contributions, Firmino’s Brazil team-mate Alisson has highlighted his importance for the entire team.
Having made a few superb saves during the two games, Alisson was one of the players of the tournament and the 27-year-old shot-stopper admitted that Firmino’s importance is absolutely vital for the Merseyside giants, “We know and he knows how important he is for the team. And we value him a lot. I think he is one of the most important players for us,”
Alisson further explained the traits that Firmino possesses and how it makes a massive difference for Liverpool in their style of play which suits the entire team, “He doesn’t just score, but he assists too. He makes the team play from behind, he helps us a lot and makes a difference.
He finally concluded by adding that he is very pleased for his national compatriot, “We are really happy and I am really happy that he could score, it’s important for a striker to score and I’m really happy for everybody and this title.”
Liverpool needed an extra-time goal to get past Flamengo as Firmino scored in the 99th minute of the game to help Liverpool clinch the title.
