Andy Robertson excited over Diogo Jota’s return to the fold at Liverpool after injury

Andy Robertson has highlighted Diogo Jota’s importance to Liverpool FC in light of the latter’s recent return to the first-team fold at Anfield after a spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Jota had been one of the most influential performers in the Reds shirt ever since he was brought in from Wolves last summer and his brilliant patch of form in front of the goal had made him a lethal attacking option at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.

However, a knee issue in the backend of 2020 curtailed Jota’s time on the pitch and while the Portugal international was on the recovery table, the Merseyside Reds have failed to hit the ground running in domestic football.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Reds left-back Robertson was all praises for his teammate’s quality whilst on the pitch, with the defender saying that Jota looked in high spirits on his come back from a lengthy injury niggle that had cut short his high-flying start to new surroundings.

“In a really tough week for a few reasons, of course, seeing Diogo back on the pitch brought a smile to everyone’s face,” the full-back told Liverpool’s official website.

“He was flying up until his injury, he really made an impact coming into the team, a new signing hitting the ground running with goals, assists and the way he was going about his business.

“So, great to have him back. He has obviously been out for a long period of time, he’s looking really good in training, looking sharp. So, I’m sure he’s looking to make up for lost time.

“It’s good to have that option, great to have him back and it’ll be good to have him back involved in the squad. He has certainly brought an extra quality to training, long may that continue and hopefully he can score some of the goals he scored at the start of the season because, like I said, he was making a huge impact on this club.”

It remains to be seen whether Klopp would go ahead and give some minutes on the pitch to his recently returned forward when the Anfield outfit goes up against basement side Sheffield United later this weekend.
