Andy Robertson’s hamstring injury not a major concern for Scotland boss Steve Clarke

Andy Roberton’s latest hamstring niggle is not likely to water down Scotland boss Steve Clarke’s plans of fielding the Liverpool FC left in action against Isreal on Wednesday, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Scottish defender was reported to have injured his hamstring whilst on international duty and injury fears over his availability for Jurgen Klopp’s side started to mount immediately following that, with an injury-depleted Liverpool FC backline doing little to favour the Premier League holders.

However, in a recent interview, as quoted by the Mirror, Clarke expressed hope of Roberton playing in the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixture against Isreal, adding that further rounds of assessment would be done on the full-back’s fitness ahead of the game.

“Andy was probably a little bit worse than the rest, which is why I left him out. It would have been too big a risk,” said Clarke.

“But he’s coming to Israel so we’ll assess him over there and hopefully get him on the pitch. That would be good as we’d like our captain on the pitch.”

Having missed his team’s 1-0 loss to Slovakia, Roberton will be hoping to get back on the pitch as early as possible, considering his paramount importance to the Scotland squad, coupled with Liverpool FC’s requirement of the 26-year-old’s full fitness in the wake of the weekend clash at Anfield which will see the Reds play hosts to Leicester City.
