A brace from Diogo Jota secured the win for Liverpool against Arsenal on Thursday night to book the Carabao Cup final berth for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The home side got a fine opportunity in the opening minutes of the game when Alexandre Lacazette stepped up to take a free-kick just outside the Liverpool box.

Caoimhin Kelleher, however, was more than up to the task with the shot-stopper tipping Lacazette’s effort onto the crossbar to keep his side in the game.

Joel Matip had his strike chalked off for offside but Liverpool responded through Jota who provided the finishing touch to a fantastic team move to open the scoring.

Fabinho ensured Liverpool went into the half time break with their slender lead intact as the defensive midfield man made an important block to deny Gabriel Martinelli.

Substitute Ibrahima Konate rattled the crossbar with his header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner with Liverpool threatening to add to the tally sooner rather than later.

And the second goal came as was expected with Jota again on the scoresheet after a fantastic through ball from Alexander-Arnold found the Liverpool forward who made no mistake in slotting his finish into the back of the net.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the dying stages with midfielder Thomas Partey given the marching orders following two bookings in quick succession.
