According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly joined Liverpool in their pursuit of Jeremy Doku.
Since the Stade Rennais player caught the attention of Liverpool scouts, the Reds have been interested in the 20-year-old for some time. Two Premier League clubs are now reportedly interested in the Belgium Under-21 winger, so they are no longer the only team pursuing him.
Doku agreed to a contract with the French team in 2020 for almost €26 million. A club paying so much for an 18-year-old player indicates that they are confident in his immense potential. He has played regularly for the French team since then. This season, he has participated in seven games across all competitions, however, he has yet to score a goal.
Jurgen Klopp could use the experienced winger much to his credit. Due to the injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah is the only fit winger in the squad.
Doku might be acquired in January to increase the team’s depth. However, given how much the French team invested in acquiring him, they could expect a sizable sum to recover some of their investment.
It would be sensible for Liverpool to initiate contact given the interest other rival teams have shown in the winger. However, it is still unclear whether the Reds will move for the player this January or next summer.
