Lorenzo Pellegrini has decided against seeking a big-money move to some of the top clubs across Europe as the Italian midfielder has chosen to stay put at AS Roma beyond this summer’s transfer window.
Such a chain of events means that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been handed a major blow on the transfer front with the Anfield camp understood to be keen on Pellegrini ahead of the next season.
The Reds have made it a priority this summer to bring in a new midfield face and a host of options have been identified by Klopp and his backroom staff as ideal names to bring in on Merseyside.
Gini Wijnaldum’s departure for Paris upon the expiry of his Liverpool deal had forced Klopp to scout the transfer market for replacements and the in-form Pellegrini, courtesy of his showings for Italy at the Euros, had emerged as a viable candidate.
However, reports from Corriere dello Sport suggest that the player is believed to eager on committing his long-term future in the AS Roma shirt and emulate the iconic Roma figures in Francesco Totti and Daniele de Rossi for their prolonged service at the club.
