Aston Villa gaffer Steven Gerrard is still keen on a swoop for Joe Gomez with the Liverpool defender eyed up by the Anfield great now in charge at Villa Park.
Gerrard is looking to add to his defensive options in the Villa ranks and has been credited with a strong interest in moving in for Gomez who now serves as the fourth-choice centre-back option at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
Ibrahima Konate’s arrival last summer from RB Leipzig and the young Frenchman’s subsequent run of good showings relegated Gomez to limited first-team action across the 2021-22 campaign which posed question marks over his Liverpool future.
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Gerrard remains hopeful of striking an agreement with his former side Liverpool for Gomez’s signature with the 25-year-old understood to be wanting regular minutes out there on the pitch.
The forthcoming World Cup set to be held in Qatar later this year has Gomez vying for a spot in the Three Lions squad and the England international would be eager to earn first-team action in a consistent manner.
