Dean Smith has rebuffed recent speculation linking Ezri Konsa with a summer switch to Liverpool FC as the Aston Villa boss asserted that the in-demand centre-back remains committed to performing at a consistent level for his side.
Konsa’s great run of showings at the heart of the Aston Villa backline since the turn of the top-flight campaign has made the Englishman a key target for Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur going into the summer transfer window.
With Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside outfit having an injury crisis affecting first-teamers in the defensive department, the German is understood to be keen on adding Konsa’s talents to his ranks at Anfield despite having acquired both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies on deadline-day last month.
However, Smith seemed unconcerned with the latest rounds of speculation concerning Konsa’s long-term future in the Aston Villa shirt, according to reports from TeamTalk, with the Villa gaffer insisting that on the back of his superb performances, the defender was bound to awaken interest from other clubs across the country.
“Everybody can see that we’re having a good season so far and when teams have good seasons players get linked with everybody.
“He’s one of our players who has been consistent this season. It’s his first proper Premier League season, he’s cut out mistakes, he’s been a consistent performer for us and playing to a level where I know he can.
“But there’s also certainly room for improvement in him. He’s aware of that and is enjoying himself at the moment, so he certainly won’t be distracted by any links.”
