Aston Villa are reportedly in line to pose a challenge to Liverpool’s plans for making a move for longstanding target Denis Zakaria, according to reports from The Daily Mail.
The highly-rated Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is set to call it quits at the German outfit come the summer of 2022 when his deal comes to a close and he seeks a transfer elsewhere.
Liverpool have been joined by the likes of Leicester City, Arsenal and Everton in the race for the Swiss international maestro who has earned rave reviews for his showings in the Bundesliga over the last few years.
Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa are now understood to be the latest candidates credited with a strong interest in landing Zakaria’s signature at the end of the campaign from Monchengladbach where he is into the last six months of his deal.
Jurgen Klopp too will have his sights on Zakaria in the transfer market with the Reds boss urged to bring in a fresh face to bolster his underwhelming midfield roster ahead of the next season.
