Aston Villa under the new management of Steven Gerrard have reportedly touched base with Liverpool to sign Joe Gomez in January.
The 24-year-old Gomez returned to full fitness levels at the start of the 2021-22 campaign from his long-term layoff but has been unable to make his way back into the plans for the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The England international now finds himself behind the much-experienced Joel Matip and Frenchman Ibrahima Konate with the latter being the sole recruit for Klopp in this summer’s transfer window from German side RB Leipzig.
According to reports from the Italian news outlet Calciomercato, it is claimed that Gerrard following his heroic start to life in the Villa Park top job is weighing up a move for Gomez with a proposal submitted to the Liverpool camp to ponder over.
The Villians have enjoyed a superb run of form since Gerrard took charge following Dean Smith’s sacking with the Midlands outfit now in the top ten in the standings despite closing in on the drop zone earlier this season.
