Two major Italian clubs in Atalanta and AS Roma have shortlisted Liverpool FC midfielder Marko Grujic with reports that the Serbian international is likely to be sold by the Merseyside giants ahead of the upcoming season.
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly given the nod to sell the 24-year old Grujic this summer after the player returned to the club following a two season-long loan stay at Hertha Berlin. With the Serbian international’s sale rumored to fetch £20 million, the Reds will be in a better position to give into Bayern Munich’s asking price for Thiago Alcantara.
Grujic had previously courted interest from a number of Bundesliga sides. Hertha Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach were two such German clubs willing to table an offer for the midfielder. However, the price-tag put on the player’s head of £15-20 million seemed to put them off.
Considering the well-stocked midfield department at Anfield, Grujic will find it very difficult to make his mark on the Liverpool FC first-team squad. Despite his talent on the pitch being highly regarded by Klopp, the Serbian is not expected to be a regular fixture in the German’s lineup for the upcoming season.
Atalanta are believed to have established contact with the Reds over a potential loan-to-buy offer for Grujic. The Serie A side are willing to include a clause stating a permanent obligation to buy the player in the initial loan agreement for the 24-year old.
