Robin Gosens, Atalanta’s star left-back, has admitted that he is excited to play on the famed Anfield turf when his side steps out on the pitch come Wednesday night to square off against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC side.
The Merseyside giants will be hoping to notch up a fourth consecutive victory in the group stage fixtures of the UEFA Champions League, and in the process seal qualification to the Round of 16 in Europe’s elite club competition.
However, Atalanta’s challenge could come as a tough test for the Reds, despite the former not being on their best form of late. Last season’s UCL quarter-finalists have not hit the ground running this season, but the club’s stalwart defender Robin Gosens believes that they have learnt their lesson from the reverse fixture, in which Liverpool FC thumped the Serie A side 5-0.
“It’s one of the best games a player can play. We’ve learned a lot from the first-leg, we face a very strong team,” the German said at a press conference, as quoted by Football Italia.
“Wingers will be crucial, I am looking forward to face Liverpool. I’d like to score tomorrow as I did against Everton to come full circle.
Gosens is just one amongst a number of quality players assembled by Gian Piero Gasperini at the Italian club, and the player’s recent comments show that Gasperini’s men are determined to snatch away a highly unlikely win at Anfield to avenge the humiliating loss at their home turf last month.
