The Reds will be looking to get a positive result when they travel to Atletico Madrid for the first leg of their last -16 Champions League clash on Tuesday.
The European Champions come into the match on the back of their 0-1 away win over Norwich City in the Premier League.
It will be the first time they will be facing each other since 2010, while their previous encounters in the Champions League finished 1-1 on both legs in the group stages of the 2008/2009 competition.
Here Liverpoolcore.com takes a look at how Liverpool would line-up against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
Out: Xherdan Shaqiri (calf), Nathaniel Clyne (knee) Senegalese forward made a return to action against the Canaries and scored the winner at the Carrow road.
Sadio Mane should return to the starting XI against Atletico Madrid meaning that he will join the duo of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in the attack.
Liverpool squad is good to go with only Nathaniel Clyne and Xherdan Shaqiri being the only player’s absence for Liverpool due to injury. This was evident as veteran midfielder James Milner returned from a hamstring problem to face the Norwich City on Saturday.
Fabinho and Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Skipper Jordan Henderson should feature in midfield.
Joe Gomez is expected to get the nod over Joel Matip to start with defender Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the Reds defense.
The Liverpool boss is not expected to make any changes with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson again to start in the two full-back positions.
The midfield area alongside Skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabinho is usually the biggest talking point when it comes to Liverpool squad selection although Wijnaldum is expected to edge out the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain despite the goals scored by the latter in recent games against West Ham United (away from home) and Southampton (at Anfield).
