Benfica have confirmed Darwin Nunez’s move to Liverpool for an initial fee of €75 million with the player in line to pen a six-year deal at Anfield.
A statement from Benfica which was put out in the early hours of Monday confirmed Nunez’s sale with the total amount of the transfer expected to reach the amount of €100 million, according to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Nunez had been a real goalscoring threat for the Portuguese giants Benfica last term with the 22-year-old netting 34 goals across all competitions including two goals in both legs of the Champions League last eight meeting against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The Reds are lining up Nunez, a club-record purchase for the Merseyside giants, as a replacement to fill the void that would be left by the outgoing Sadio Mane who is closing in on completing his move to long-standing suitors Bayern Munich.
Bayern are believed to be prepared to submit an improved offer for their top summer target with the view of closing the long drawn out standoff with Liverpool after the latter turned down the opening two bids.
