Turkish club Besiktas are keen to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius on a permanent deal amid rumors that link the player back to Anfield.
It was the 26th of May 2018, when Loris Karius made two massive blunders in the Champions League final which cost Liverpool the title against Real Madrid. The German goalkeeper received death threats and plenty of abuse from the loyal supporters of Liverpool. It was quite imminent that the Reds were not going to keep Karius at the club after his horrendous outing in a game of such magnitude.
Liverpool then broke the bank to sign Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window when they spent over £60 million. Karius was therefore loaned out to Turkish side Besiktas on a two-year deal but is not expected to return to Anfield.
However, Karius has been off to a terrible start to life at Besiktas as he has managed to keep just one clean sheet in eight league starts. Karius’ poor outings and silly errors have caused Besiktas to come under heavy scrutiny and his performances in the Europa League caused him to be dropped for the last few games.
In the Turkish Super Lig, Besiktas lost their last two games and fell into eighth place and nine points behind leaders of the pack Basaksehir. These terrible showings from Karius had rumors running around that he would return to Merseyside soon and Besiktas would cut short his loan spell.
But Besiktas club president Fikret Orman has rubbished any rumors that stated Karius would return prematurely while speaking to Sky Sports, he asked for fans to have patience with Karius to improve his game, “Karius is an excellent keeper; God willing, we will sign him on a permanent transfer. These stories are complete nonsense. Give Karius some time is all I’m saying. Karius has a lot of work to do but give him time.”
It’s quite unlikely that Liverpool will want Karius back after his blunders in the Champions League and it seems quite evident that Besiktas will take their time to assess the situation with the 25-year-old shot-stopper as they can call on his services for two full seasons.
