Burnley 0-3 Liverpool Match Report | Premier League 20-21

Liverpool moved back inside the top four of the Premier League for the first time since February courtesy of a fine win over Burnley with Jurgen Klopp’s side putting up an inspiring display at Turf Moor.

MATCH PROCEEDINGS

The Reds looked in control of the game early on and should have taken the lead through Sadio Mane whose mediocre season in front of the goal continued as he missed an easy chance to give his side the opener.

Mohammad Salah also came close to finding the back of the net but was stopped in his tracks by Burnley left-back Charlie Taylor who had a good outing when coming up against the Liverpool megastar.

But Roberto Firmino carried on his recent run of rich form by slotting a thumping finish into the goal from a well-timed Andy Robertson cross into the box just before half-time as the visitors went into the break leading through the Brazillian’s effort.

Liverpool continued to dominate the game’s tempo following the resumption of play at Turf Moor and were rewarded for the same when Sadio Mane put in a fantastic looping cross from the edge of the box which was headed into the far corner of the goal by Nat Phillips for his first goal in the Reds shirt.

The hosts failed to make the most on the attacking front but did threaten to pull one back with striker Ashley Barnes being a particular danger to the Phillips-Williams centre-back pairing that had taken the field for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

But Klopp’s side put the match to bed through substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who was just magical in his footwork minutes after coming off the bench and followed it up with a powerful driving finish to triple the lead for the Merseysiders.

The final whistle marked the end of the proceedings for Liverpool who now have just Crystal Palace to look forward in a must-win game at Anfield on Sunday to secure their place in the Champions League for the upcoming campaign.
