Burnley table a formal transfer offer for Harry Wilson

Stepping up their approach for in-demand Liverpool FC winger Harry Wilson, Burnley have tabled a formal offer worth £16 million for the Welsh international, according to reports by The Athletic.

A fee worth £12 million will be paid upfront to the Anfield giants with a further £4 million in add-ons to be received by Jurgen Klopp’s side on the basis of Wilson’s performances for the Clarets.

Wilson has been on the fringes of the Liverpool FC first-team squad of late and did not even partake in the Merseyside club’s pre-season training camp held in Austria during the initial weeks of August.

The Welshman had been backed to seal a move elsewhere this summer with next year’s UEFA Euros in mind, and the attacker’s spot in Ryan Gigg’s Wales squad not being a guaranteed possibility. Wilson needed much of the first-team action this season and the Reds were not going offer the 23-year old that.

The player spent the 2019-20 season on loan at AFC Bournemouth, and despite a bright start to his spell at the Cherries, Wilson’s run-in with a series of injury niggles curtailed his playing time in Eddie Howe’s side, which ultimately suffered relegation to the Championship.
