Napoli manager has admitted that Liverpool is favorites to win the European Cup once again this season after being crowned as continental champions last time around.
Napoli managed to defeat Liverpool 1-0 back in October last year but the Merseyside giants won the reverse fixture at Anfield and scraped through to the next stage while the Italian outfit crashed out of the tournament. Now the Reds will begin their title defense at the Stadio San Paolo in their Group E opener and Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has targeted another victory on home soil against “the best team in Europe”.
The 60-year-old Italian spoke highly of his opponents and also admitted that Liverpool have grown a lot over the past few months but he expects the same result as it was last year. Ancelotti said in his pre-match press conference, “Liverpool have grown because last season gave them so much awareness. On the other hand, we’ve also grown because we’ve added more quality to our squad. It’ll be a hard-fought match as we’ll be facing the best team in Europe. We hope to get the same result as last season.”
Liverpool has also built on their Champions League success with a perfect start in the Premier League as Jurgen Klopp’s side have managed to win five out of their opening five games in England’s top flight. On the other hand, Napoli has conceded seven goals in their opening two games until the 2-0 win against Sampdoria on Saturday.
