Scottish giants Celtic are reportedly preparing a £9 million move for 23-year old Reds forward Taiwo Awoniyi. Neil Lennon is looking to bolster his frontline ahead of next season with the possible departure of Odsonne Edouard from the club.
Awoniyi was signed by Liverpool FC in 2015, however, the striker has not made a single competitive appearance for the first-team squad of the Anfield giants. Since his joining the club, the 23-year old has spent all his time on loan stints across a number of different sides.
A Nigerian U-23 international, Awoniyi spent last season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Mainz, finding the back of the net once in 12 games. Despite his largely inefficient spell in front of goal at the German club, Awoniyi’s credentials as a proficient striker have been well established through his performances at Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron, where the striker scored 21 goals in 47 appearances.
Jurgen Klopp is understood to be open to sanctioning the attacker’s sale this summer provided Celtic table a reasonable bid for him. The Liverpool FC would not want to miss out on a chance of getting additional funds from a fringe player’s sale this summer to finance his desired transfer activity.
