Scathing criticism directed towards Jurgen Klopp in light of his Liverpool FC side’s slump in form has come as a shock to former Welsh national team gaffer Chris Coleman, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The Merseyside Reds suffered their second top-flight defeat in a row on Sunday at Anfield, with Manchester City inflicting a painful 4-1 scoreline on Klopp’s men and going ten points adrift of their title-challenger foes.
Klopp was the subject of large-scale censure in the aftermath of the weekend’s showdown on Merseyside as the German coach was blasted by the likes of Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane besides being assessed rather critically by the Liverpool FC fanbase.
Chris Coleman, however, leapt to the under-fire Klopp’s defence, with the Welshman insisting that in spite of their recent run of torrid form, Liverpool FC remained one of the best teams across the English land, adding that injuries to key first-teamers had affected the balance of the defending champions.
‘I’m amazed listening to some of the criticism of Liverpool. This is a team that won the title, Champions League title, been labelled as one of the best team in the Premier League – which absolutely they are.
‘This season they have had crippling injuries to important players. Also the style of football Jurgen Klopp likes – heavy metal football – that they have been doing for two or three seasons and sooner or later that will catch up.
‘They are a great team, they are in a sticky moment. Will they win the league, no.
‘I think they need to add some players and they need to back Jurgen in the transfer market.
‘No team can maintain those standards, but can they come back again? Of course they can.
‘A lot of their players look a bit tired and jaded from playing the most attacking, the most exciting football, but they will come back again.
